The Surgery Is Scheduled

Yesterday Rebekah had another appointment with her Surgeon at Primary Children’s. Rebekah slept the whole drive and woke up when we got to the hospital. We dropped Sariah off at JJ’s brother’s on the way over.

When we first arrived she had blood drawn which she was understandably upset about. It took the nurses two tries to get blood from her. The first time JJ held Rebekah and the second time I held her. Both times she cried saying “no, owies” and “I want mommy”.

After that was over the nurse told her that she could pick a toy from the table. She choose a little toy puppy. She was happy with her toy.

We were told that it would take about 20 minutes for the results. We went to the cafeteria to eat lunch to help pass time. The place was packed and I never looked at all the menus so I just settled on a chicken burger. As I was leaving I noticed that they had Indian food and wished I got that instead.

Then we to Rebekah’s Surgeon’s office to meet about the results. He said that all the tests were completely normal and that all we had to wait on now was the inflammation to go down. We were able to set an appointment for the appendectomy which will be on May 21st. We were given a bunch of handouts on the surgery and reading about the possible side effects (eventhough rare) makes me really nervous. While we spoke with the receptionist after meeting with the surgeon, Rebekah picked a toy up from the desk and said “thank-you”. I had to tell her the toy wasn’t for her to keep and gave her the puppy. It was cute though and she used good manners!

The receptionist told us that after the surgery Rebekah will go into the Post Anesthesia Unit to recover and should go home the day after surgery. She also told us that a parent needs to stay over night, I replied with “There is no way I would leave the hospital while she’s there”. The receptionist then went on a tangent about how some parents just leave the hospital while their child is getting surgery and how some people just shouldn’t be parents.

I don’t know why a parent wouldn’t want to stay unless they couldn’t find care for other children. The hospital takes good care of the parents and there are showers and even fitness equipment they can use.

My mom might come down so she could watch Sariah and if she’s not able to come down I’m sure plenty of people would be willing to watch her.

When we left the hospital to go back to the car Rebekah stopped at every silver car and said “hi Lila” and then when we got into our silver car Bekah looks over at Sariah’s carseat and said “Mama, where Lila go?”. I thought it was funny that she would think we would leave Sariah in the car but she was asleep when we dropped Sariah off at JJ’s brother so it made sense.
