About 4 months ago I registered Sariah and Rebekah for Preschool. We recently found out that Sariah has been accepted, I was hoping that they would both go together and now I’m not too sure about sending Sariah to preschool especially since it starts at 8 am!

At 8 in the morning I’m usually lying down nursing Miriam while Sariah and Rebekah fight over who gets to lay down on the other side of the baby. It would be good for us to get up early as a family together even if we do end up homeschooling. I would love for us to cook breakfast besides having oatmeal or cereal everyday as well as pray as a family before school and work.

There are a few things I already don’t like about the preschool but I’ll give it a chance. I’m pretty sure that they won’t be doing any holiday activities like making recycled Christmas cards or painting Easter Eggs. When I was a preschool teacher some of the teachers were overly cautious about holiday activities where they would tell other teachers they shouldn’t be having the kids cut out star shapes during the Christmas season I thought that was going too overboard – hopefully Sariah’s teacher’s aren’t like that. Another thing I find weird is that they have this parent volunteer form and even taking your own child to the dentist, reading books to them or brushing their teeth is counted as volunteering. That is not volunteering – it is parenting!

Sariah met her teachers today and they said that there is still a chance that Bekah will get in. I hope so because Bekah would really miss Sariah.

I am loving the late summer weather. Its not too hot, just nice and warm – It even rained a few times last week! I will need to take advantage of this weather because very soon it will be freezing outside and we will all be wishing for a winter getaway to someplace warmer.

Speaking of a winter getaway wouldn’t it be so much fun to stay in a beautiful house like this for a week?

This is the Seahawk house, a Carolian Designs house at North Carolina’s Outer Banks. It has 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, a private pool, outdoor and indoor sport/game area and an ocean view. Maybe I would rather live there than just stay for a week

Even if Winters in Utah are really cold, I hate driving in snow. and my kids don’t even want to play in the snow. I love Christmas time, hot chocolate and homemade soup. The good outweighs the bad.

This means that in one year Sariah will be able to go to Kindergarten! And I still don’t know how I want to educate her – put her in public school, charter school or home school her? And if I decide to home school do I buy a curriculum, make up my own or go with K12 which is an online school where I would work with a public school teacher and they have regular field trips and social activities for the children in the program – sounds like an interesting option.

I was listening to the local Christian radio Station while driving a few days ago and the hosts were discussing their children going back to school and how concerned they were about their children not being under their influence and values while at school.

Hearing this caused me to think more about homeschooling. I have doubts that I can effectively teach secular education or if they would regret being home schooled when she is older but I wonder if 5 is too young for formal education and if Sariah going to a public school will cause her to loose her love of learning to school being boring or some course being too slow or too fast for her level? Would she be bullied? Would she be a leader? Would she pass on the values she learns at home and church to other kids?

There are so many things to think about. Pros and Cons to all types of education methods. The best thing I can do is to pray about what the right decision will be for my children and maybe what is right for Sariah might not be right for Rebekah.

It started on Monday after I talked to my twin sister on the phone. Sariah said “I miss my best friend Auntie”. She has had many best friends this week. While holding Miriam she said “I love my baby sister, she’s my best friend”, While snuggling with me she said “Mommy’s my best friend”, when I put Sariah in my bed to go for a nap because her and Bekah will not nap if they are in the same room she said “but Bekah’s my best friend. And every child she played with at the park became her best friend.

Those are all very cute. However, all yesterday morning she talked about her best friend “spider”, she mentioned that she rocked the sleeping spider in her hand and her and Bekah played with spider in the bedroom. I passed it off as an imaginary spider, However last night Sariah had a huge smile on her face and came up to me with something in her hand (I couldn’t really see it) and said “Here is Spider!” I jumped back and JJ went to go look at her hand and upon seeing that it really was a spider told her to put it in the garbage (It was dead, not sleeping). She did, but then climbed into lap in tears and through her sobs, said “my best friend is gone”.

Even though I was totally creeped out, I felt bad for her. There are a million other “best friends” I would rather her have than a spider. But it is sweet how loving she is to all creatures.

I bought a groupon today that I wanted to let everyone else in Utah know about because I think it’s a great deal. It is for Fat Cat’s which has locations in Salt Lake City, Ogden and Provo. You get 2 hours of bowling , shoe rentals, drinks and pizza or tacos (depending on location) for 6 people! This will be a fun activity for your family or a group of friends. I think Sariah and Rebekah will have fun bowling and it will be fun to teach them how to bowl.

You need to purchase the deal today but you have until May 2011 to use it. If you miss this deal sign up with groupon anyways so you can find out what deals they have each day. They have deals for cities all over the US and Canada.
