It is fun to watch my hometown host the Olympics but I’m sure it would be way more fun to be at home right now. I was talking to my Mom and sister on the phone yesterday and they mentioned how they got to meet Alexandre Bilodeau, the olympic athlete to win Canada’s first gold medal of these games. while they were downtown.

I haven’t really watched much of the olympics on TV. I think NBC’s online coverage is much better than their TV coverage. My favourite sports that I have watched so far are Speedskating and Snowboarding. I think it is fun to watch how fast those athletes go – those must be some of the best fat burner sports.

Sariah and Rebekah enjoyed watching the Pairs figure skating. They love to watch ballets and ballroom dancing on youtube so I knew they would like it. It was so cute to watch them try to copy the figure skaters.

This is a picture of me several years ago at GM Place on the day we found out that Vancouver would be hosting the 2010 Olympics! I still have that towel which I have to continually save from JJ who tries to use it to clean something!

The ‘Decision Day’ at GM Place was so cool. There were many Canadian Olympians in attendance and we were able to watch the IOC members, people in Korea and Austria as well as those of us in Vancouver and Whistler on a big screen. The British Columbians were by far the most energetic and of course when we received the announcement that we were going to host the Olympics everyone just went crazy!!!

The reason why I am re-living that experience is because I wanted to share a cool program I learned about with you, SOGO Active. It was created by Coca Cola and ParticipAction to help Canadians between the ages of 13-19 live more active, healthier lifestyles. Canadian youth who sign up with SOGO Active can earn entries to become a torchbearer! How cool is that?! Entries are awarded based on how active you are. Over 1000 youth who join this program will be chosen to be torchbearers.

If you are a Canadian over 19 you can still participate as a community host, scheduling actvities within your community to help youth become more active. This would be a wonderful way for Canadians to get involved their communities!

Share this exciting program with all the Canadian youth you know, they will have you to thank if they are given the opportunity to become a torchbearer.

Back when JJ and I were engaged he said that a dream of his was to take his children to a college football game. He admits that at that time he was thinking of a Tennessee game, however on Saturday he took Sariah to a BYU football game (my cousin gave him a ticket). Saturday morning he learned that his brother, Stephen and Stephen’s brother-in-law were also going to the game. Which we though would work out great because I had planned to run errands with Bekah and now I didn’t have to drop JJ and Sariah off at the very busy school.

However JJ accidentally took the keys with him so Bekah and I just played at home. After Sariah and JJ got back we did our Costco shopping then went out to eat a Chinese buffet. I like going to buffets when we have go on family outings because since the kids can eat right away they are better behaved. Of course when we were given the order total we recieved fortune cookies. My fortune said You will move into a wonderful new home this year. I thought that was so funny and it gave me some optimism as we are currently working on finishing all the stuff you need to do to buy a house. JJ got $1 passes to the BYU Women’s Soccer game which we went to after dinner. It was a lot of fun and the fans were very enthusiastic. I went on a date to a University of Utah game over 4 years ago and there was not a whole lot of enthusiasm.
BYU won both the Football and Soccer games….

Go Cougars!

I found out last night why NBC did not show the opening ceremonies live, so they could add in a bunch of commercials without cutting out any of the show.

Anyways the show was amazing! I am sure the Vancouver Olympic committee was watching it wondering how they can possibly put on a better show for the next Olympics. The little girl who sang was just adorable. The choreography and performances were so spectacular it is hard to put into words what it was like.

I thought it was funny that during the parade of athletes when the newscaster announced that they were going to commercial he said don’t worry we’re not going to cut Canada out again, we received a lot of e-mails last time about that. I was telling JJ I hope they don’t cut Canada out again. JJ was happy that they showed Mongolia. I was also thinking how JJ and I began dating right after the last Summer Olympics 4 years ago.

There are no medals for Canada yet but some have done well on qualifications for cycling and sailing. The US is first in medal count right now with 3 medals and Uzbekistan has a medal (my sister-in-law’s husband is from Uzbekistan). During the last summer Olympics the US came in first in medal count and China second so it will be interesting to see what happens this year with China hosting, of course the US has 103 compared to China’s 63 so it may be difficult for them to be first place this year. In Greece Canada was #21 with 12 medals but hopefully they will do better this year especially since they have over 100 more athletes this year than 2004.

I thought she deserved some time of award for how brave she was this year with dealing with the diabetes that she was diagnosed with just a few months ago. She definatly handled it better than most 7 year olds would have and probably even better than I would have.

It is so quick and easy to order medals and awards from quicktrophy.com. If you need medals for a group of people like a sports team you can customize each medal at no extra charge. The website sells all kinds awards such as dog tags (which is what I got), trophies, plaques, ribbons and medals.
