My Canadian Girls!

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

We didn’t really do anything for Canada day yesterday since we had to go to the USCIS application office in Salt Lake to renew my permanent resident card which went a lot smoother that when we first did it in Idaho. The people at the Salt Lake office were quick and friendly but JJ wasn’t able to eat his lunch in the building. Then we went to the temple while my brother in law’s wife, Kristina baby sat for us which was so nice of her!

On Monday evening we made Canada flags to put on our window here is Sariah with her picture that we made with her hand prints (she wasn’t upset she was trying to go for the “natural look”):

JJ also made a Canada Flag, the leaf doesn’t quite look like a maple leaf though!

Here is a picture of Rebekah looking so cute in the Canada Dress I made for my youngest sister when she was a baby:

Yay For Naps!

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Yesterday both of my daughters took a 2 hour nap at the same time. I was so surprised that Bekah actually napped for more than 15 minutes without being held!

I was able to do so much during that 2 hour period. I cleaned the bathroom and kitchen, mopped the floors and made some fudge for our family home evening treat.

It would be nice if this happens more often!

Happy Anniversary Mom And Dad!

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

26 years ago today my parents were married in Calgary, Alberta.  They now have a family of 5 children and 2 grandchildren. I wonder if I will have any grandchildren after I have been married for 26 years, it could also be possible for me to have a couple grandchildren on my 26th wedding anniversary as Sariah will be 24 and Rebekah will be 23. I just can’t imagine them being my age but for some reason I can imagine myself being my parent’s age.

Here is a picture of the family (my parents, siblings, me, husband and my 2 children):

We all look really tired in this picture!

Rebekah Loves Daddy As Well!

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

I have blogged a few times about how attached my 8 month old daughter, Rebekah is to me. I wanted her to be ok with going to other people and letting daddy hold her so I didn’t need to be the only one holding her. For the last several weeks I have been leaving Rebekah alone with daddy while I go to the laundromat or grocery store and at times when she needed comforting I had my husband calm her down.

Yesterday my husband was given a wonderful gift for his effort. When he came home from work, Rebekah became excited and crawled over to him, stood up and put her arms up for him to pick her up. When he picked her up she gave him a hug and a kiss. It was so sweet and it made him so happy. She had never done that to him before!

My Drunken Sister

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

We all have dreams that shake us up and really make us think what we would do in certain situations. This happened to my husband a couple nights ago. He dreamt that my twin sister became an alcoholic which my parents thought was hilarious when he told them seen how she is totally unlikely to drink. Anyways in the dream I persuaded him to have us and our children move in with my sister to help her overcome her addiction.

After my husband told me about his dream he made me promise not to make us move in with any drunken family members or have them move in with us, just send them to alcohol rehabs instead.

Finally Gaining His Marriage Weight

Monday, March 17th, 2008

For the last 3 years people have been asking my husband when he was going to start gaining his marriage weight. And a few months into our marriage my mom told him to stop selling plasma because he was loosing a lot of weight. But no need to worry, he has a belly now! I think it is because he drives to work now and he used to walk to school every day.

I was surprised when I saw him last night (he was in Utah for 4 days for a graduate school site visit) I started laughing and asked him if he was expecting, he laughed as well and said that his brother who lives in Utah asked him the same thing. I’m not worried about him gaining weight but I do hope he starts eating a healthier breakfast or else when the kids are older they will want to eat his ’sugar’ cereal instead of Cheerios and raisin bran.

Also this weekend I was talking to a friend of mine who I haven’t talked to in a long time. She has struggled with her weight for a long time and told me that she had been taking Orovo detox for a week and has lost 10 lbs. She seems really happy about it and says that there are no known side effects and the pills are actually multi-vitamins to help with weight-loss and improve skin appearance. I am happy for her but I still think that loosing weight gradually is better than loosing it quickly which sometimes results in a lot of loose skin.

New Years Resolutions

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

On Monday my husband and I set some family goals and individual goals. Halfway through the month, I know. Better late than never!

Some Of Our Family Goals:

  • Work on our financial budget each Saturday.
  • Family scripture reading and prayer each night.
  • Have the house clean before going to bed.

A Few Of My Personal Goals:

  • Have learning time with the children each day. (I will be posting more learning activities on www.learningactivitiesforchildren.com)
  • Exercise 3 times a week (I have 11 pounds left to loose before I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight)
  • Have personal scripture study each day.

Birthday Celebration

Monday, December 10th, 2007

We celebrated my husband’s 26th Birthday this saturday. He got some new shoes at Ross with the money his parents gave him then we went out for dinner at a Chinese Buffet. There is a video rental place near us that gives free rentals on your birthday so we went there to pick a movie. He was deciding between Mr. Bean’s Holiday, Amazing Grace and Bridge To Terabithia. I was hoping he would choose Amazing Grace but he went for Mr. Beans Holiday, we thought it would have been funny but it was pretty boring and not a movie we would recommend. We borrowed a friends DVD player so we wouldn’t have to watch it on our computer. The sound doesn’t go very high so we always end up having to put the subtitling on.

After the movie I made a cake. I used the funfetti cake mix that I got for 65 cents and then I made the icing myself. I wanted to try something different  so I looked around our kitchen to see what I could put in the icing and then I decided to try kool-aid, it tasted really good! We were too tired to eat the cake saturday night so we had it last night.

I’m Not The One Graduating

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

In Just 8 days my husband will be graduating with a bachelors in Biology and a minor in business from BYU-Idaho. I think I am more excited than he is, I have been counting down the days and every day I tell him how much longer he has to go before graduating but then he tells me how many tests he needs to take before he graduates which I think is 5 now. His last final is actually the day of his graduation! I feel bad for him having to do that because I know he would like to relax and enjoy his graduation day, he might not even be able to go to his graduation Luncheon. He is really excited for his parents to be there, he hasn’t seen them since Christmastime last year and they haven’t even met Rebekah yet.

Our Thanksgiving

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

My husband has had this whole week off school for thanksgiving which has been great because he is now ahead in all of his classes which means he will have less stress when he has his finals. He graduates With a bachelors in Biology and a minor in Business 3 weeks from today which we are both very excited about.

He still worked in the schools math lab this week and his boss also invited us to have thanksgiving dinner at his home. Sariah had lots of fun playing with his kids, while his youngest child was Sariah’s age she seemed to enjoy playing with his school aged kids more.

Thanksgiving day we watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and ate a big breakfast with pancakes, eggs and hashbrowns that my husband made.

It was a great day to reflect on all of our blessings!

Vacations Never Go As Planned

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

This week my family was down visiting me on there way from British Columbia to Provo,  Utah to take my brother to the Missionary Training Center where my brother will learn Spanish and prepare to serve a mission in Ecuador.

Things did not go as planned though. My family was supposed to drive down to Utah on Wednesday but on Tuesday night my youngest sister who is 8 came down with the flu then the next day my dad, brother and other sisters all got sick. My mom luckily never caught it. They all ended up staying at the hotel an extra day to recuperate. Thursday they were kind of pressed for time  and had to travel back home and were not able to take my brother down to Utah so he stayed with us and flew down to Salt Lake from Idaho Falls last night. I felt really bad for my family that they were not able to take him to Utah like they wanted to.

It was nice to spend some time with my brother though. It seems like he is really changing. He was very polite and appreciative when he was in my home. He thanked me for the meals I made him and he even helped me clean up. I was like wow is this really my brother. It will be interesting to see what he is like when he comes home in two years.

Catching Up

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

Last week while my family took turns coming down with the flu I got way behind with the house work and for four days I hardly did any cleaning. This week I have been slowly catching up on the housework. Since my parents and siblings will either be here tonight or tomorrow morning I have been spending most of the day cleaning.

I don’t want my family to think I am messy or anything! :) My husband thinks I am cleaning a lot because I am stressed out.

The Stomach Flu Has Hit!

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Up until now I haven’t blogged since Thursday morning and the reason for this is because the Stomach flu has been going around my family.

It started Thursday afternoon. I was going to take care of the billing stuff for the doctor, midwife and hospital and also take Sariah for the flu shot since they were having free flu shots for children that day. Well on my way to the pediatrician Sariah threw up and looked really sick so of course no flu shot. The doctor didn’t have any appointments at the time we got there so he gave Sariah a quick checkup and said that she had the stomach flu.

The next day I got the flu. I did not have any energy at all and from throwing up so many times I started loosing my voice which since yesterday has been totally gone.

Saturday morning my husband came down with the flu which was really bad for him since he was supposed to take a test that day. Hopefully his teacher will let him take it this week instead.

Worst of all  yesterday morning I awoke to little Rebekah throwing up. When I turned the lights on I noticed that her vomit was bright yellow which I had never seen before so I looked it up online and all the medical sites that came up said to call the doctor immediatly if a baby has bright yellow or green vomit. I woke my husband up and told him (well moved my lips and gestured) about what was going on so he called the doctor who told him that if she doesn’t have any wet diapers by noon to take her to the emergency room. We waited until 2 pm and still no wet diapers so we took her to the hospital. The doctor there said she was not dehydrated and sometimes the body quits making urine to prevent dehydration. She has been sleeping a lot yesterday and today so hopefully she will be feeling better soon.

The people at the hospital also told me that I have laryngitis and to rest my vocal cords until I get my voice back.

Obviously we didn’t go to church yesterday and some people from church found out what was going on and made us dinner which was really nice of them.

It has been over 6 years since I last got sick so this experience has helped me to be more grateful for my health.
