Those of us who are suffering in unbearable heat are grateful for the invention of air conditioners. It is not just humans who loose efficiency when we are over heated computers do as well.
For the last month our computer has been randomly crashing and shutting off. I wonder if this could be a cause of the computer overheating? Neither JJ or I really know a lot about computers so we don’t know the exact reason. I will have to get JJ to help me figure out how to remove the dust from inside the computer - I have heard that dust buildup on the CPU heat sink can be a major cause of computer shutdowns.
If that doesn’t solve the problem maybe a CPU cooler or a CPU performance fan would help they are sold at Link To Copy: http://www.xoxide.com/cpucoolers.html for reasonable prices.

Yesterday I blogged about our clogged sinks well instead of waiting around for maitnence to fix it I actually fixed it myself! My prediction was that the garbage disposal (or garburator as we say in Canada) was the cause of the clog so I looked information up online about garbage disposals. Several websites said that to clean the garbage disposal run ice cubes through the disposal.
With the cap off the piping and a bucket to catch the water I got out my tray of ice cubes and ran a few cubes through the disposal at a time. Well … sorry for the gross description … a bunch of gunk and grime came out through the pipes. After I accomplished the task with all the ice cubes I screwed the pipe cap back on and ran the water on all the sinks and the water drained out just fine! I guess a ‘do-it-myself’ attitude will come in handy for when we become homeowners soon!

My duplex I live in is just ugly inside and out. I feel like I live in a cave with the rock on the walls and uneven and unfinished flooring. I would particularly want to redo the kitchen. It is a clash of 90’s and 50’s cabinetry and counter. The worst part of the kitchen is that one half of the floor is higher than the other which was really annoying a couple days ago when we are having dinner and my daughter started coughing on her food and I couldn’t slide my chair back to quickly help her.
I am renting so of course I can’t do anything as far as remodeling but fortunately for me I am moving in 6 weeks. I know the owner of the home I live in does not want to spend money on remodeling the place so I found the perfect contest for him: The $20,000 Transform Your Home With Tanya Memme contest that is being put on by Renuzit® TriScents™.
All the owner would need to do to enter the contest is:
- Upload a video of photo(s) of the home.
- Write up a little essay about why he wants a home makeover.
- Write up a little essay about how Renuzit Triscents can help him.
I could imagine how beautiful this place could be without the rocky walls, new flooring and cabinets it would actually be a very enjoyable place to live! Of course who ever moves in would need a stash of Renuzit’s triscents as the neighbors smoke. I do have to say I love Renuzit’s products they are much more affordable than other brands and even if my home is ugly at least the Renuzit air freshner I use help my place to smell nice despite the neighbors cigarette smoke.
If you live in the continental US and are a homeowner go ahead and enter the contest at Triscents.com. Hurry because you only have until April 30th, 2008 to enter.

Using a car cover is the best way to protect your car especially if you don’t have a garage or if you are like many people do not have room in your garage to park your car. Here are a few benefits to using a car cover:
- Protect The Paint - Extreme heat and rain can damage a car’s paint job, a weather proof car cover will prevent this. A car cover will also protect the paint job from bird dropping and branches falling on the car and scratching it.
- A theft deterrant - A car thief will obviously want to steal a car that he can get into easily without looking suspicious; He probably will not want to use extra time taking a car cover off.
- Protect against dents - Using a car cover in a parking lot can protect against dents that may be caused by shopping carts or someone opening their door too quickly and hitting your car.
These benefits can save you money by lowering costs on repairing car damages, paint touch ups and even having to buy another car if it is stolen!

Last year my husband and I were part of a community garden. We were able to pick a lot of green beans, peas, carrots, squash and pumpkin. We especially enjoyed making different dishes from the pumpkins. pumpkins are really quite delicious, we even pureed them and fed it to our daughter; she loved pumpkin too!
One of my favourite pumpkin recipes that I created was a pumpkin pie from scratch it is so easy and yummy! Here is the recipe:
Ingredients:
- 2 Cups cooked and pureed pumpkin
- 1 1/2 Cups evaporated milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 Cup brown sugar
- 1/2 Cup white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
- 9 inch pie crust
Directions:
- Combine all ingredients except the pie crust, mix well.
- Pour into pie crust, bake at 425 degrees F for 15 minutes.
- Lower oven temperature to 350 degrees, bake an additional 45 minutes or until set.
Servings: 6-8
One thing that could make this recipe even easier is using a stand mixer. When it comes to using a hand held electric mixer I always seem to get food splatters on the countertops and myself. The Hamilton Beach® Stand Mixer has a splatter shield. My husband and I also make all of our own bread from scratch. The biggest mixing bowl we have is just big enough to hold all the ingredients for 2 loafs of bread. With the Eclectrics® Mixer’s 4.5 quart bowl we could make 4 loaves of bread at a time. I love the innovative look and colours of the Hamilton Beach® Mixer. I would choose the apple colour (the one pictured). Which colour whould you choose?

Our dishwasher hadn’t been working since we moved into this apartment almost 3 months ago. The maitnance guy finally fixed it a few days ago. I am loving how much less time it takes to do the dishes now. I used to have to do dishes 3 or 4 times a day now I can just do it once a day and the kitchen also looks cleaner because there are hardly ever dishes in the sink and on the counters now.
According to my electric company’s saving energy brochure doing dishes once a day in a dishwasher uses less energy than doing dishes 3 times a day by hand. My dishwasher also has a no heat dry option for even more energy savings!

My husband and I often discuss what kind of home improvement projects we would do on our home if we owned it. I wanted to find out what the most popular home improvement projects are and I found out that a survey that was conducted last year of 5,000 homeowners by Dan Fritschen, a renovation expert revealed that the top 5 projects were:
- Bathroom remodeling
- Kitchen remodeling
- Room additions
- Floor coverings
- Painting and wall coverings
One growing Home Improvement project is double glazing windows which reduce outside noise and help reduce heating bills by 10-12%. Homeowners in the UK can get every third window double glazed for free through Anglian Home Improvements as well as a 10 year warranty guarantee.

I have been using cloth diapers on my toddler for 9 months now. I started off with the Gerber prefolds that I bought from target and then I bought some chinese cotton prefolds off e-bay which I like a lot more. The Gerber diapers are not as absorbent so I don’t use them anymore. My brother-in-law’s girlfriend was telling me that her mom used cloth diapers and once the kids outgrew them she used them for dusting so I decided to try that. They are far better for cleaning and dusting than any other cloth, sponge, paper towel I have used and it’s a good way to resuse!

Alka-Seltzer can do more than relieve your heartburn and headaches they can also clean your jewelry! Just put your jewelry in a glass of fizzing Alka- Seltzer for a couple of minutes. When you take the jewelry out it will be clean and shining!
You can also place your jewelry in a container of club soda overnight to get them clean and sparkling.
There is no need to pay high prices to get a jeweler to clean your jewelry for you.
