The Baby Borrowers

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

The newest NBC reality show debuted last night, The Baby Borrowers features 5 teenage couples (at least the girls) who *think* they can handle having a baby. The couples will take care of a baby for 3 days, then take care of toddlers, children, pre-teens and even elderly people. All while living in a gorgeous home and not *really* having to deal with the actual financial stress that most young families need to deal with.

Obviously I don’t think this show will be a total reality check for the teens and of course that would be impossible to do but if this show does come back next season (I don’t think it will) the producers should have the teens live in a not so nice home and be given a limited amount of money where they will need to carefully budget their expenses.

It will be interesting to see how the teens do though. I am sure the boys will be the first to admit they are not ready to give up their xbox 360’s in exchange for providing for a family.

The Top Two Perform On American Idol

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Tonight’s theme was a boxing duel which I thought was kind of lame but I still enjoyed the show. During the beginning of the show David Cook said that he was going out tonight to have fun while David Archuleta said he was going to give it his all and that is pretty much happened. David Cook did well but he wasn’t at his best while David Archuleta’s performances showed that he wants to win this competition. He deserves it and I hope ‘little David’ wins it!

During my first few days living in Utah I have noticed how huge David Archuleta is here. They play his American Idol studio performances on the radio and every 10 minutes they are telling people to vote for him. I am trying to vote for him but the phone lines are busy each time.

We will see what happens tomorrow night!

The Top 3 Perform On American Idol

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Last night ‘the idols’ sang 3 songs each, one that the judges picked, one that they pick and one that the producers pick. I thought that the best song choices came from the producers. During the beginning of the show my husband turned to me and said “do you know what the perfect song for David Cook would be? Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” Sure enough that was the song the producers chosed!

Here are my rankings:

David Archuleta - David’s second song was very awkward - he is not a hip hop artist! However his vocals are amazing and I do hope he wins American Idol.

David Cook - Very talented and versatile. I didn’t care much for his first two songs but his last performance of ‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” was probably the best of the night.

Syesha Mercado - I am sure she is so happy to be in the top 3 and she is a fantastic singer but I think even she is expecting to go home tonight.

The Top 4 Perform On American Idol

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Watching how terrible Jason’s performances were for the 3rd week in a row made me more upset that Brooke was voted off last week. Now that Brooke has left I have no reason to go online before the show airs in washington and look up American Idol spoilers so I can find out what number to dial to vote for her as my number is still an Idaho number and the voting is over in Idaho when American Idol is over in Washington.

On to my thoughts starting with the contestant who I thought did the best:

  1. David Archuleta - David sang ‘Stand By Me’ and Elvis’s ‘Love Me Tender’. Simon summed his performances up very well saying that he didn’t beat the competition he crushed the competition.
  2. Syesha Mercado - Syesha sang ‘Proud Mary’ and ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’, a song that was inspired by the Civil Rights Movement. I loved both of her performances, Syesha is definitley the most improved out of the top 4.
  3. David Cook - David sang ’Hungry Like The Wolf’ and ‘Baba O’Riley’. His first performance was Ok and the second was better, still not my best performances from him when Rock and Roll night should have really been his time to shine.
  4. Jason Castro - Jason sang ‘I Shot The Sherriff’ and ‘Mr. Tambourine Man’. If Jason doesn’t leave tonight I would be very surprised.

The Top 5 Perform On American Idol

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

It was Neil Diamond night and each AI performer choose two songs to sing. During the first round of songs the only two I liked were David Archuleta and Syesha and during the second round they were all good except for Jason Castro - I think he may be going home tonight.

Here are my picks for best to worse:

  1. David Archuleta - I actually liked his performance of ‘Sweet Caroline’ more than ‘Coming To America’ which was the Judges favourite. David actually sang an upbeat song and did well and he even smiled during his performance!
  2. Syesha Mercado - Syesha sang ‘Hello Again’ and ‘Thank The Lord For The Night Time’. Syesha is a wonderful singer but I wonder how big her fan base is. She was amoung the best performer last week and still ended up in the bottom two.
  3. Brooke White -Brooke sang ‘I’m A Believer’ and ‘I Am … I Said’. The first performance she looked like she was having fun but it really wasn’t her style, the secod performance was just perfect. She looks like she has her confidence back!
  4. David Cook - David sang ‘I’m Alive’ and ‘All I Really Need Is You’. His first performance was alright and is second was very good. He is starting to grow on me.
  5. Jason Castro - Jason sang ‘Forever In Blue Jeans’ and ‘September Morn’. Both performances were boring and just not as good as he is capable of.

The Top 6 Perform On American Idol

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

It was Andrew Loyd Webber night, the broadway theme was perfect for Syesha and David Archuleta but probably hurt the most for Jason and Brooke.

Here are my thoughts starting with my favourite:

  1. David Archuleta - David sang Phantom Of  The Opera’s ‘Think Of Me’ and turned it into a pop ballad. I thought he was the most original of the night and despite what Simon said I thought it sounded pretty perfect.
  2. Syesha Mercado - Syesha sand ‘One Rock And Roll Too Many’. She had a lot of fun with this song. Broadway is definitely her Genre.
  3. David Cook - David sang Phantom Of The Opera’s ‘Music Of The Night’ and proved that he really is a very dynamic performer. My husband thought he should have dressed up as a vampire. I think only Jacob Hoggard from Canadian Idol would have done that.
  4. Brooke White - Brooke sang Evita’s ‘You Must Love Me’. Apart from Brooke stopping 8 seconds into the song then asking to start over again, She sang it well. The last few performances she has been so nervous I don’t know what happened. In her earlier performances she seemed relaxed and upbeat. She is my favourite contestant so I do hope she stays.
  5. Jason Castro - Jason sang Memory and I really didn’t like it all. Broadway is definitely not his style.
  6. Carly Smithson - Carly sang ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, she did well I just really didn’t like the song. I think a song about Christ should be more reverant, not a rock song. Just my opinion.

I predict the bottom three will be Carly, Brooke and Jason with either Brooke or Jason leaving. I will be sad if Brooke leaves :(

Kristy Lee Cook Can Ride Horses Again

Friday, April 18th, 2008

It was quite entertaining seeing Kristy Lee Cook barely survive American Idol almost each week for the past couple months. She seemed like the least emotional girl to leave yet and was able to give a good ‘exit’ performance. One reason for that may be that is looking forward to grabbing the saddles again and riding horses.

Another thing that Kristy has to look forward to is getting married - yes she is engaged! Her boyfriend proposed to her on the American Idol stage as she was finishing her exit performance. The two have been planning an engagement for awhile and she wanted him to propose on the show.

I think it is great that she is putting some of the money she earned being on American Idol towards creating a non-profit organization for kids and horses.

Top Seven Perform On American Idol

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Last night was Mariah Carey week and the boys definitely outshined the girls. Here were my thoughts on the show starting with my favourite:

  1. David Archuleta - David sang ‘When You Believe’ (The song from ‘Prince Of Egypt’), I knew and I am sure everyone knew that he would sing this song on Mariah Carey night. The song was perfect for him and he performed it perfectly.
  2. David Cook - David sang ‘Always Be My Baby’. I know I haven’t really said anything nice about him since he performed ‘Eleanor Rigby’ on Beatles night but he finally made me like him again.
  3. Brooke White - Brooke sang ‘Hero’. She sang it beautifully with just her and the piano. She seemed so nervous though.
  4. Jason Castro - Jason sang ‘I Don’t Wanna Cry’. Jason tried the Hawaiian thing again and it worked very well for him.
  5. Kristy Lee Cook - Kristy sang ‘Forever’ country style. It wasn’t one of her best performances but it was good.
  6. Syesha Mercado - Syesha sang ‘Vanishing’. Great vocals but not one of the best tonight.
  7. Carly Smithson - Carly sang ‘Without You’. She came into the competition with the best female vocals but her last two performances have not been that great.

The bottom three could be any of the girls (I just hope Brooke White doesn’t leave!) I think Carly will be going home.

Shout To The Lord On American Idol

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Just to clear up the controversy of the ‘Shout To The Lord’ song that was sung during the Idol Gives Back show and the Elimination show. You will notice during the Idol Gives Back show they took Jesus out. Another interesting thing I noticed is that Brooke White, David Archuleta, and Kristy Lee Cook sing are the only ones who sing the begining part. I wonder if this means that they are the most Christian contestants? Just wondering, that’s all :)

The Top 8 Perform On American Idol

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

I was not too impressed with American Idol this week. The theme was inspirational songs but I would never have guessed that if they didn’t tell us that. Overall  I just did not find the songs that inspirational. Again, here are my thoughts on my favourite performances to least favourite.

  1. Kristy Lee Cook - Kristy sang “Anyway” by Martina McBride. Definitely her best performance and the best of the night, in my opinion. She has been on the bottom three each week except for one and I think this week will be her second time not in the bottom three.
  2. Syesha - Syesha sang ”I Believe”, The song Fantasia sang when she won American Idol a few years ago. Syesha gave a wonderful performance. I think it is so unfair that she is the only one that the judges compare to others who have sang the song she sang. Isn’t the point of the competition to make the songs their own?
  3. David Archuleta - David sang “Angels”. Amazing as usual but I wish he would have picked a different song, him singing “Angels” is already all over youtube from his EFY and school performances.
  4. Brooke White - Brooke sang “You’ve Got A Friend”. I think this was a good song choice for her, it fit her personality and she sang it beautifully but she seemed a little nervous during her performance.
  5. Jason Castro - Jason played the Ukulele as he sang the Hawaiian version of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow. I loved this performance and that version of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”.
  6. David Cook - He sang Our Lady Peace’s “Innocent”. Definitely not one of his best performances. He seems so cocky! It is annoying.
  7. Carly Smithson - Carly sang Queens “The Show Must Go On”. She sang the song very angrily and I did not like her performance at all which was dissapointing as I think she has one of the best voices of the competition.
  8. Michael Johns - Michael sang “Dream On”. It didn’t even sound like he was singing, just kind of shouting.

Top 9 Perform On American Idol

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

It is down to 9 Contestants and overall they are sounding pretty good. Last night all the contestants sang Dolly Parton songs, I didn’t know she had written so many songs. I atually even voted for the first time last night. I voted for Brooke White about 10 times. As usual here are my thoughts on last nights performers starting with my favourite:

  1. David Archuleta - David sang “Smoky Mountain Memories” and it was, I thought the best perfomance of the whole season 7. I really want to hear the full length studio version when it becomes available on youtube.
  2. Brooke White - Brooke sang “Jolene” and Eventhough the judges didn’t think it was her best performance I really enjoyed it.
  3. Syesha Mercado - Syesha sang “I Will Always Love You”, I actually liked her version more than Whitney Houston’s.
  4. Carly Smithson - Carly sang “Here You Come Again”. She has such a beautiful voice which is a little like Celine Dion’s.
  5. David Cook - David sang “Little Sparrow” and as Simon said he sang a song about sparrows and made it good. I thought it was funny how they worked it into the show for David Cook to pretty much credit each band he had borrowed renditions from. I guess they had to do it for fears of lawsuits.
  6. Jason Castro - Jason sang “Travelin Thru”. This is the best he has been for a few weeks!
  7. Michael Johns- Michael sang “It’s All Wrong But It’s Alright”, the judges seemed to think it was his best performance so far. I think he’s a great singer but I didn’t really like his performance last night.
  8. Kristy Lee Cook - Kristi sang “Coat Of Many Colors”, I think with a better song she could have done a better performance seen how county music is her style.
  9. Ramiele Malubay - Ramiele sang “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind”. She was alright I just didn’t enjoy it as much as the others.

My prediction for the bottom three are Ramiele, Kristy and Jason with Ramiele going home.
