12 Weeks Pregnant!

I am 12 weeks pregnant today! We are planning on having a home birth with a midwife in attendance. We have interviews 3 midwives so far. I would like to interview one or two more before making a decision.
Last night was one of our midwife interviews. I asked her at what week you can hear the baby’s heartbeat and she said usually by 12 weeks and asked if I wanted to try and hear it. I was a little nervous about doing that because I knew that I would be so worried if we were not able to hear it. Fortunately we did get to hear it. It took awhile to get because the baby was lower than the midwife thought it would be but the heart beat was nice and strong. Sariah and JJ were able to hear it as well (Rebekah was sleeping). Listening to your baby’s heart beat for the first time is such a precious gift, much better than recieving an xbox 360 or any other hot item of the year.
The baby is a little over 2 inches tall and probably about half an ounce. Really tiny but he or she has fingers and toes, a face and ears – pretty amazing if you ask me.
My tummy is now expanding, my pants and skirts are feeling too tight so I’ll need to bring out the maternity Jeans and skirts! I am also having awful heartburn so I’m expecting this baby to have a head full of hair like Rebekah did!

Man, hearing about your pregnancy is making me baby hungry! Rebecca Williams was my midwife last time and she was wonderful! She does homebirths too, though she is in SLC, but she will travel for births. http://www.greatexpectationsbc.com if you want to check her out.

Having home birth is strictly disallowed over here…
But I had always imagined it to be so much more comfortable, isn’t it? On my own bed…
And so much more meaningful too… The first place the baby sees is his own home….
Hmmm….
can’t wait to hear your experience! then again, you are just 12 weeks only… *giggle* Oh well, time flies ya?

You may be interested to try a water birth too. I had a friend who did it with her third and she really loved it.
