Learning From Our Gardening Mistakes

On Saturday we went over to Home Depot to get some supplies to paint and for some other minor home repairs. Sariah was full of energy at the store wanting to touch everything from lawn mowers to light fixtures and of course she fell in love with the Princess wall decor they had.  Rebekah on the other hand slept, sitting straight up in the shopping cart the whole time. Where is my camera when I need it? I did get a picture of her last week sleeping in a unique place, though.

How cute is that?

We never got around to painting this weekend but JJ did take this really ugly broken heater out of the bathroom wall and put a piece of Sheetrock in it’s place. There is another broken wall heater in the kids room. So JJ will remove that one as well.

While JJ worked on the bathroom I planted tomatoes again because our first batch all died. Instead of starting from seeds we got a 9 pack of tomatoes that were already a few inches tall. They’re all still alive so that’s a good sign!

The first batch of green beans and peas we planted died as well. A friend of ours who is a very experienced gardner said that beans and peas don’t transplant well so to start them outside. On Thursday we did just that and today I noticed that our green beans have sprouted (it only took 4 days!) and the stems are really thick already so I think they have a good chance of thriving. The Zucchini is growing really well but from what I’ve heard anyone can grow Zucchini but I sure do love Zucchini’s. Hopefully we will get a good harvest out of our first year of gardening. So far gardening has been a real learning experience for us.
