Engagement Tips For Guys

PhotobucketThe day JJ proposed to me was my most memorable but nerveracking date as I knew he was going to propose to me that night – asking me to take a particular day off work was a big clue. During the day we visited gardens and parks then he dropped me back off at home and told me to wear something nice. That evening he picked me up at my dorm apartment and we walked 10 minutes up the hill to Temple Square in Salt Lake where we ate at The Roof Restaurant – The best desserts I have ever had, he says he’ll take me there again for our 5th anniversary this year! As we stepped out of the restaurant there was a horse drawn carriage waiting for us, we took a ride around downtown and stopped at the Salt Lake Temple. Up until this point the evening was very romantic then we reach the Temple gates and someone says the gates are closing in 10 minutes – JJ says “don’t worry, I’ll make it quick” – not so romantic. We sit down on a ledge and he puts his arm around me and then gives me an engagement rings and asks “will you marry me?”. Me, nervously giggling tells him that he needs to get down on one knee. He does this -showing me that he can be obedient to a wife- then asks again. I of course said yes! While walking back to my apartment he tells me how the wedding ring was on sale and he still talked the salesman down. Most men probably wouldn’t have admitted that but he knows that I am even thriftier than him and would be proud of his bargain.

Men usually only have one chance to propose to their girlfriend so I imagine it is a scary event for them. There are so many “rules” like having to spend 2 months salary on an engagement ring that really doesn’t apply to everyone. That’s why I like Bella True’s Tips For Guys as it acknowleges that different things work for different people whether they are looking to buying a ring, earrings or any other type of jewelry. My husband could have benefited from reading the ‘Proposal Etiquette’ section as my Dad complained about JJ not asking for his permission. Good thing my parents think he’s the perfect guy for me.

Aw, that is so sweet. When Nate proposed to me it wasn’t romantic at all lol, he didn’t even have a ring yet. Later on after we chose a ring he took me to the place of our first date, got down on one knee and asked again. Slightly more romantic :)
