How To Defrost A Turkey In Less Than One Hour!

Yesterday we celebrated thanksgiving with JJ’s brother and sister-in-law, they brought the Turkey but forgot to defrost it. The ideal way to thaw turkey is to have it in the refridgerator for two or three days another way is to defrost it in cold water (changing the water every 30 minutes) which takes several hours to defrost.
Since most people do not buy turkeys small enough to fit in the microwave, defrosting a turkey quickly can be a dilema if you realize on Thanksgiving or Christmas that you forgot to defrost the turkey and you don’t want to disappoint those expecting a turkey dinner.
What you can do is put the turkey in the dishwasher!!!! We did this with a 15 lb turkey and it took one and a half cycles. I got the idea from ehow.com. You will read some comments on that site about how you shouldn’t defrost meat in warm or hot water because bacteria can grow. This is true for long period of time but I would not worry about it if it is less than one hour. Be sure not to keep meat between 40 – 140 degrees Ferinheit or 5 -60 degrees Celcius. We had our dishwasher on high temperature and steaming hot water. It did not cook the meat at all and it was a tender delicious turkey once cooked. Keep the turkey in the packaging and don’t add soap of course
Next time try to remember to thaw the turkey in the fridge

That’s good to know in a turkey emergency
I have a big turkey that I forgot to get out of the freezer until this morning that I am cooking Sunday, luckily I have enough time to do the cold water defrosting.

I saw a commercial the other day that had someone defrost a turkey in the washing machine .. I think it was for some pre-cooked turkey or something.
Hope you Thanks giving dinner was good!
