LED lighting VS Fluorescent

We are always looking for ways to cut our utility costs. When we were first married we used some of our Walmart and Target gift cards to buy fluorescent light bulbs and our electric bill for the next month was reduced by quite a bit. Fluorescent bulbs have come a long way over the last 4 years, you can buy different shapes so you don’t need to throw your light bulb covers away :)

Now there are led light bulbs that uses even less electricity than fluorescent. They seem to be more expensive than the fluorescent but when I read that they use only 1/4 of the electricity as fluorescent, last 6 times longer and generate no heat (which means saving money to cool the home during the summer). I am thinking of buying a couple to try out.

In British Columbia everyone was given money from the government to buy energy efficient products maybe I’ll ask my parents it they got any LED lighting with their money and find out how they like them.

Or maybe I will wait for them to drop in price. Fluorescent’s are a lot cheaper now than they were 4 years ago so LED’s are likely to be cheaper in a few years.

We haven’t been able to find any LED lights up here yet (except our Christmas lights). I think my husband found one website from somewhere in the prairies but that is about it.

We put it towards a bike for John, so he could ride to work (and so we could go for family rides since I had a bike).

That is a great way to spend the money. We may get a bike for JJ next spring.
