Election Time For Canada

It seems like the US election has been going on forever but an election has recently been announced for Canada – next month! I was a little surprised by this and as much as I support Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party of Canada I did loose a little respect for Harper calling an election so soon since he said that he wanted to have fixed election dates (which would have been in October 2009) to reduce the corruption and power associated with Prime Ministers being able to call an election when ever they wished. I would like to hear why Stephen Harper has decided to call an election so soon but I am pretty sure that it is because the Stephane Dion’s Liberal party does not have a positive image at the moment and Harper wants an election before the Liberal’s can regain Canada’s confidence. Canada has 5 major parties and all of them seem to be admitting that the Conservatives will be re-elected but they are all vying for as many votes as possible because they don’t want the Conservatives gain majority in the parliment.
I personally wouldn’t mind the conservaties winning a majority victory. In my opinion Stephen Harper is Canada’s strongest leader since Pierre Trudeau and would probably be able to make Canada even stronger with a majority government. I will need to order my election package soon so I can vote! Good thing for me the Election is in October because my passport expires in November and I probably wont renew it until the next time I go to Canada.

Ah yes. It seems like our elections have gone on forever, but they just accepted the nominations. It makes for a long year.
