Photo taken for nationalgeographics.comI found out last night why NBC did not show the opening ceremonies live,  so they  could add in a bunch of commercials without cutting out any of the show.

Anyways the show was amazing! I am sure the Vancouver Olympic committee was watching it wondering how they can possibly put on a better show for the next Olympics. The little girl who sang was just adorable. The choreography and performances were so spectacular it is hard to put into words what it was like.

I thought it was funny that during the parade of athletes  when the newscaster announced that they were going to commercial he said don’t worry we’re not going to cut Canada out again, we received a lot of e-mails last time about that. I was telling JJ I hope they don’t cut Canada out again. JJ was happy that they showed Mongolia. I was also thinking how JJ and I began dating right after the last Summer Olympics 4 years ago.

There are no medals for Canada yet but some have done well on qualifications for cycling and sailing. The US is first in medal count right now with 3 medals and Uzbekistan has a medal (my sister-in-law’s husband is from Uzbekistan). During the last summer Olympics the US came in first in medal count and China second so it will be interesting to see what happens this year with China hosting, of course the US has 103 compared to China’s 63 so it may be difficult for them to be first place this year. In Greece Canada was #21 with 12 medals but hopefully they will do better this year especially since they have over 100 more athletes this year than 2004.
