I found a list of the grad schools that pay the highest stipend for biology and Chemistry fields. According to this list Cornell Medical College in New York pays the highest stipend which is $29,858/year plus subsidized housing and a $1000 travel award. I’ll have to show this list to my husband. The school he wants to go to, BYU pays $20,100/year plus health coverage for them and their dependants. I’m sure Utah’s cost of living is a lot lower than New York’s.

Horaayy..there are 3 comment(s) for me so far ;)
I thought I heard something about this. I heard that if you’re going to get like your PhD then you can’t work, or most schools will not let you work because they want you working on your thesis or something and that they’ll actually ‘pay’ you to go to school.
Am I understanding this correctly? Obviously 20,000K isn’t a lot to live off of but perhaps a couple would be able to pull it off, kids would make it harder.
Good luck with the search, hopefully things work out well for you two.

Yes, that is true grad school is demanding and they strongly suggest you don’t work while you are in Grad school. There are not really a lot of fields where they pay the students. The only ones I know of are biology and chemistry.
We have 2 kids so far and 20,000 is quite a bit more than we are making right now. We will probably have a couple more kids while my husband is in Grad School so hopefully we will be able to find other ways to make money.

Utah is pretty expensive too. I know that BYU takes good care of its students though, so you will be fine.
