New Approach For Drug Offenses

Arrests and incarcination due to drug offenses have trippled across the United States according to The Sentencing Project, a Washington, D.C.-based drug policy group. The projects results were released this month.
It is obvious that jail time and fines are not doing much to lower the offenders desire for illegal drugs. I am not surprised as those people are released back into the same society after their jail sentence is over, therefore going back to their former friends and family members who probably got them involved with drugs in the first place.
Many judges are now sending drug offenders to a drug treatment center. Hopefully this helps the offenders learn how to overcome their addictions and give them the desire to relocate to a new area where they can have a fresh start at life and a chance to make new friends who can have a positive impact in their life.

I hope it works. For all of society’s sake, I wish we could find better ways of dealing with this problem.
