Time To Potty Train?

I decided that I would start trying to potty train my 16 month old after she is able to stay dry for more than 2 hours. However last night she went into a corner and started straining to go number 2 so my husband took her diaper off and put her on the toilet and she went. We clapped for her and she seemed so proud of herself.

I’m still not in any rush for her to get potty trained but I’m thinking it would be good for her just to sit on the potty a few times a day and just keep it laid back, I don’t want to push her too early. It would be great if she catches on quickly and becomes fully potty trained soon but I’m not expecting it.

I remember reading something years ago and I believe it to be true, we can’t really potty train our children, other than showing them the proper way to do things. They will use the potty when they are ready to. Keep in mind, children all develop at different ages so if she’s ready now, she’s ready now!

That’s so cute! I’m kinda excited to get Maddy potty trained, but not really. Diapers are the last of her “babyhood”. *tear*

We started with Lindsay at 2 and she was completely trained by 2.5. I never bought Pull Ups, or training pants. To me, that’s just another way for the makers of Pampers to have you continue to use their products. We plan to do the same with Maddy.

It’s good to introduce her to the potty. You have a great attitude about it. It is true that they will go potty when they are ready. Sariah might be ready. Didn’t you say that you potty trained early?

Otherwise the child is training the parent.

I know, Sariah is growing up so quick especially after the baby was born she started acting a lot older. I am planning on getting the cloth training pants. I don’t think my mom used pull-ups on any of us. I think it would be harder to train with pull-ups because they are so much like diapers.

My mom said that my twin sister and I were 18 months when we were trained. All my younger siblings were 3, the youngest was 2.5.

haha… Different things work for different kids and parents. People just need to do what works for them.

Yay for sariah!! I say potty train her now .. hahahah. She will take after her smart mommy and auntie. :) I do think though that the parents do have to train their kids, if you just “wait” until their ready they might not want to until they are 3 or even 4 and get lazy. I know kids who are 3 and they are very smart, can communicate really well but just want mommy to keep changing their diapers …

Also, Mikayla told one of the nurses today that her baby nieces were coming to visit her but that she’s not changing any diapers.
