My two and a half week old spits up a couple times a day which I am not too concerned about but when she vomited 3 times last week I was worried and called the doctor who said that wasn’t normal and to bring her in.

My fellow blogging friend, Lisa mentioned to me how her son has baby reflux and so I was thinking maybe thats what Rebekah has. I brought up the possibility of reflux with the doctor and he said it could be that but because she sometimes gasps and coughs while she’s eating he wants to rule out an esophagus defect. Her upper GI x-ray was supposed to be today at 11 am but I was told that she couldn’t eat for 4 hours before the X-ray. I woke up at 6 am to feed her and she ate until 6:45 and went to sleep. Then she woke up at 8 am wanting to eat again! I tried several other ways to comfort her but after 45 minutes of crying she was shaking and so upset, I just felt so bad that I gave in and fed her.

I then called the hospital to reschedule the x-ray for friday since my husband wont be working and he will probably be able to comfort her better since she wont expect to be fed from him. I told the lady that I just don’t know I can not feed her for 4 hours and her response was “just don’t feed her” (it’s not that easy!). She then said that 3 hours before is okay, they just need to be really hungry to drink this stuff that they give them before the x-ray.

Rebekah is now 9 lbs 9 oz and 21 inches – she’s growing fast!

Oh, yikes, I don’t know that I could do that, either. Listening to a newborn crying for several hours and not doing anything to reduce the misery? Nah, I just don’t think I could, even if it was someone else’s baby, much less my own. Strength, sweetie. You knwo where your friends are when you need to do some shoulder-leaning.

As long as she is gaining weight, you shouldn’t worry. At least that’s what they keep telling me. They just changed his medicine, so we’ll see if this works.

Oh no. The dreaded Upper GI test. Maddy had that done when she was almost 3m, and I won’t lie to you. It was rough. She never cried for so long/hard in her entire life. But she did live.

Reflux is hard to deal with. It isn’t just the spitting up, but a lot of babies cry in pain. I suffer from reflux too, and there are times when my esophagus is on fire.

A few thing that helped Maddy: while feeding, keep her reclined. Also, take breaks to burp. That reduces the chances of it coming back up. After she’s done eating, keep her propped up in her carseat, or bouncy seat so that it doesn’t come back up.

Good luck, hun. I hope it goes smooth for you and that she gets better soon.

Also, they may tell you to watch what you eat. If you eat things that are acidic, or spicy, that can upset her tummy.

That would be hard, hopefully the tests come back ok and she gets better soon but she sure is growing fast!

She has been perfectly fine all this week. I am wondering if going for the Upper GI is worth it now.

Aron threw up a lot too the first two weeks. He even lost some weight and the doctor was concerned. He lost over 12 oz. As you can see now, he definitely gained the weight back.

I would still go for the x-ray just to make sure, especially if she has been gasping and coughing.

I would still take her. Just to be on the safe side.

My neice was recently at the doctors because she was pucking a lot! They said it was because she was eating to much – nearly double what a regular 1 month old should eat! So, they told them to only feed her half that amount every two hours and see if she stopped pucking. It worked – but she was not impressed when they took her bottle away, lol.
