On Wednesday evening my husband was working late so I went on MSN to chat with my twin sister. I shut the computer down around 8:30 and a little after 9pm I started getting contractions. Little Sariah knew mommy was in pain and she patted my back. My husband got home around 9:30 and asked if I was ok. I told him I thought I might be in labour and that I was going to try and get some rest. He put Sariah to bed and then every 15 minutes told me to tell him when I wanted to go to the hospital.
A little after 2 am the contractions were 3 min apart so I told him we should go. He took Sariah over to some friends who offered to watch her. We got to the hospital around 2:20 am and I was dialated to an 8! The midwife came soon after and said that a midwife in training was coming up and asked if she could do the delivery. I was ok with that, it took her 4 tries to break my water and I felt like changing my mind but she did end up doing a very good job. After my water broke I started pushing and 30 minutes later at 3:51 am on July 19th 2007 our precious new daughter was born! I felt so relieved to finally have her out but I was shocked by how big she was at 7 lbs 13 oz she was a pound and a half bigger than Sariah.
This delivery was a lot different than Sariah’s and the recovery has been a lot easier which I credit the midwives for. I wish I had them the first time! With Sariah it was the doctor and nurses telling me what to do and this time it was the midwives telling me to do what I want to do. I didn’t get an IV and they took the blood pressure monitor and the monitor around my waist off which made the pushing easier. They checked the baby’s heart rate every several minutes and I did have to get a shot of pitocin after the delivery to prevent blood clots and because Rebekah’s blood type is A positive I had to get the Rho-Gam Shot again.
Early that Afternoon Sariah got to meet her baby sister. She seemed excited to see the baby but more interested in eating my lunch, which she ate half of!
I came home the day after Rebekah was born, I did sleep a lot over the weekend and I take a nap when Sariah goes for a nap. I now spend most of my time making sure Sariah doesn’t hurt the baby. Since I only stopped nursing Sariah 2.5 months ago I was worried that she would want to start nursing again when she saw me feeding Rebekah but she seems perfectly fine. Sariah loves to give her baby sister kisses and tries to get her to play with the toys.

Ah, what a great big sister. And what a great husband. And what a great delivery! (I am going to look into a midwife instead of a doctor now.) Congrats Honey!
