Are All Addictions Harmful?

When most people hear of addictions and addiction treatments we automatically think of drug addictions and other obvious physical, mental and spiritually harmful addictions. However there are hundreds of different addictions that people struggle with, even seemingly harmless addictions such as exercise can be harmful to a persons health.

In my opionion there are no addictions that are not harmful. Addictions can be defined as “a habit or practice that psychologically or physically enslaves a person”. There really is no way that we can truly be at our healthiest and happiest if we are enslaved to a certain practice.

Addiction is a form of obsession. There is a different between a daily routine or strong desire, and an obsession. (For example, a daily routine and desire include reading scriptures every morning. An obsession is having a horrible day if you don’t.) I think a daily routine is a good thing, but an addiction or obsession is definitely bad.
