Have you noticed that all these weight loss commercials end their sentances by saying “…with a low calorie diet will help you loose weight”. For example:

“3 servings of low fat milk per day, with a low calorie diet will help you loose weight”.

“replacing one meal a day with slim fast, coupled with a low calorie diet will help you loose weight”.

“ replacing two meals a day with Special K cereal and a low calorie diet will help you loose weight”.

Maybe it’s the low calorie diet that actually helps you loose weight?

A Low calorie diet is the fastest way to loose weight but not always the safest and has a very low long-term success rate. The best “diet” to follow would eating the recommended food portions based on the Canadian or American food guide and 30 min. of exercise daily. You probably wont loose weight as quickly as you would with a low calorie diet but the long term benefits are better and you will have more energy. I do think if someone is obese a low calorie diet would be beneficial short term as they usually find it really difficult to do any kind of physical activity.

Also, drinking lots of water is essential for weight loss and for everyone to stay healthy and is also the most important source of energy.
