Last week I got a card in the mail saying that my daughter, Sariah was due for her 12-18 month immunizations. My husband has taken Sariah to all her previous immunizations but at the place we take her they only do them on Tuesdays and this summer my husband is working full time and gets home after they close so I just took her myself.

When the nurse asked me if I brought any tylenol or ibuprofen for her I told her that I did and she said good because she needs to get six shots. I felt so weak when she said that and when I went into the immunization room and saw six needles and six band-aids lined up on the table I almost left and thought I would just tell my husband that he needed to take a break from work next tuesday and take her. But I felt that I couldn’t just leave since they had prepared everything.

It was so heart-wrenching having to hold my baby’s hands and hear her screaming! She did handle it very well. After the six shots the nurse gave her a kitty cat sticker and she immediatly stopped crying. She loves the sticker and held onto if for about 2 hours!

I haven’t even given her the ibuprofen yet but I may end up giving it to her tonight, she usually gets a bit of a fever and is fussy several hours after an immunization.

As hard as it is, I know that immunizing my children will help protect them from many diseases and is the right thing to do.

Just remember that the diseases that she could get if she doesn’t get them are way worse than the shots. That’s how I got myself through it.

And with the meningitis scare we just had with Bill’s cousin, I have never been happier that Madison is completely up to date on her vaccinations.

awwww … poor Sariah (and you too .. having to sit through it!). I am glad she is all better now and I’ll have to bring her some stickers when I come down in a couple of months.

Yes, the kitty did bark. Esme, good luck to you and Maddy! I wonder if Tennessee has the same immunization schedule and Idaho.
