Back In The Game

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

I admit, I was too tired to finish listening to the Vancouver Canuck/ Anaheim Ducks game that went into overtime but I was happy to learn that after loosing their first game (5 - 1) of this 2nd playoff round - the Canucks won 2 - 1! The series is now tied 1 - 1.

28 Weeks Pregnant

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

I am finding it harder to do every day things like bend down after my one year old. She is at the stage now where she likes to get into everything and make a mess. But I do have to say that this pregnancy has still been a lot easier than the first one.

I am part of the 15% of the population who is RH negative which means I will need to get the Rh-immune globulin shot. This is typically given during the 28th week but my next dr’s appointment is in two weeks so I will get it then. Besides the Delivery and Ultrasound this is the most expensive procedure that we will need to pay for.

Student Loan Tips

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

My husband and I were talking recently about what a good decision it was for my husband to take out a federal student loan to finish paying off my Private student loan. The loan I got started off with a 5% interest rate that was to be paid monthly and it just kept going up and when it got to close to 9% we knew we had to pay it off that next month.

Since I was an international student I was only able to get private loans and since I did not have a lot of time from when I first got my acceptance letter to the time I left for Salt Lake City to go to school I did not do a lot of research and I went with the first American loan company I found that accepted Canadians. I showed it to my Dad and he said it looked good so I went for it.

From personal experience my advice for those looking into getting student loans are:

  1. Don’t take out more than you need. Start with the minium you think you need, you can always take out more if you need to.
  2. Never pay the minimum payment requirement, if you pay a little more each month you will have your loan paid off quicker. Try this student loan calculator to see how long it will take you to pay off your loan.
  3. If you are able to try and get federal student loans instead of private student loans as federal loans are usually interest free until 6 months after you graduate.

If you have any tips please share them with us!

Keeping Baby Dry With Cloth Diapers

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

One disadvantage to using cloth diapers is that they don’t absorb moisture away from the baby’s skin like disposable diapers.  This can cause diaper rashes if the diaper is not changed right away. There is one way to keep your baby’s bottom dry, though - Use a fleece liner. These are very easy to make yourself. All you need to do is cut strips of 14 in X 5.5 inches of polar or micro fleece. No stitiching or serging is required fleece does not fray! Line dry or lay out to dry, don’t put fleece in the dryer.

Put the fleece liners next to your baby’s skin it will cause the moisture to go through the fleece and absorb into the cotton, leaving your baby’s bottom dry!

Investing For The Future

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Futures and forex trading are becoming more popular ways for people to invest their money. If you are at the stage where you are able to invest you can start with global futures for as little as $250.

One advantage of trading with the Forex market is that there is no middleman, therefore you, the trader will recieve all the profits. Another advantage is that Forex, allows you to see your earnings instantly, unlike other markets where you may have to wait a month before you are able to see your earnings

Baby Name Poll

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

We have less than 3 months left until our new baby girl is due and my husband and I looked up hundreds of Hebrew names and agreed on six girls names that we both like and now we are asking for your vote on which one you like best!

Our last name is Lee and we are thinking of either Elisabeth for a middle name or a Mongolian name such as Tuya. Our other daughter’s name is Sariah Ruth Lee.

Skin Care

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

I don’t care much for makeup but I do care a lot about taking care of my skin. Between the ages of 14 and 21 I had some Skin Care Problems with acne. I tried many different products such as oxy pads and clearasil which did not work.

When I was 21 I moved to Utah where the climate is very dry and my skin cleared up. Still I exfoliate, tone and moisturize my face everyday. I am 24 now so I want to continue to help my skin look nice for many years.

It is also important to use sunscreen that blocks UVA, which protects our skin from damage caused by the sun including skin cancer. Last summer I would get really strange rashes on my arms when I was out in the sun pushing my baby around in her stroller so that forced me to always wear sunscreen.

Go Canucks Go!!!!

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Yesterday’s Vancouver Canuck game was an exciting one, it was game 7 of that round of the play off series so who ever won that game advanced. The Dallas Stars scored the first goal so that made me a little nervous and then in the second period the Canucks scored, the third period was an exciting one - The Canucks scored three goals! Wrapping the series up!

I was hoping to watch it online as we don’t have cable but the only place that I could find that shows the games online for free is cbc.ca and you need to be located in Canada to watch it, which is just not fair for the Canadians abroad. We did listen to the game on nhl.com during the 3rd period.

Tomorrow the Canucks will be in Anaheim, California to start their semifinals series with the Ducks. Canucks vs. Ducks - it rhymes!

Other matchups include:

  • Buffalo
    SABRES
    vs. New York
    RANGERS
  • New Jersey
    DEVILS
    vs. Ottawa
    SENATORS
  • Detroit
    RED WINGS
    vs. San Jose
    SHARKS

Bollywood Videos

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Where I’m from in British Columbia there are several Bollywood Cinema’s. I went there a few times and I really enjoyed the movies I saw. These movies have lots of music and all the ones I’ve seen are very clean, family orriented movies. My husband liked the Hindi music stations on the radio in BC.

Focus On The Victims

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

It seems that there is so much media coverage about Cho Seung-Hui the shooter at Virgina Tech and not very much about the victims. I would much rather see the vicitms lives being memoralized than hearing about the mind of Cho.

One story I found on Fox News talked about a 76 year old professor, Liviu Librescu  who was a holocaust survivor. He was killed by Cho while holding the door close so his students could escape through a window. I am sure to those students Professor Librescu will always be a hero.

Save Money On Gas Heating

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

It was starting to get really hot here and we thought that summer was finally here but for over a week it has been like winter again. Right now it is snowing!

One way that we have and a lot of other people we know have saved money on gas heating is by using room heaters. Most people use these room heaters in connection with their gas heating which is smart because here in Eastern Idaho the cost of electricity went down while gas heating continues to be quite high.

Desa online has some beautiful natural gas, propane and electric fireplaces. These are more expensive than space heaters but they do warm up rooms better and are more attractive. Desa Online is currently running a contest on their website where you can enter to win a fireplace! Enter the contest by July 1st and you may have a new fireplace for next winter!

Been A Week

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

It’s been a week since we finished our vacation in British Columbia visiting my family. I kind of miss having my parents and sisters doing everything with Sariah. Sariah is doing very well with sign language and the minute she did the sign “to eat” people ran off to get her food. My 7 year old sister especially loved feeding her.

My twin sister also came to visit from Edmonton and it was really nice to see her again. Eventhough she was only there for a few days ago. I am looking forward to seeing everyone again in August when we have our new baby blessed!

Our New Computer!

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

We bought a new computer yesterday! I love it, it is so fast! We have not fixed our laptop yet, I am trying to decide if I should sell it as it is to some one who knows how to fix computers or is willing to pay the $80 to get it fixed.

I explained the problem I had with my laptop to a computer expert and the first thing he asked was if I had a younger brother. I said yes, and he said that if he’s downloading music from free sites, (which I know he does) it can cause viruses that can damage any computer that is hooked up to that internet connection. Maybe I should have my brother buy the computer from me.
