Robbie Burns Day

On Sunday my sister, Sara-Jayne reminded me that thursday was Robbie Burns day and seen how I actually have some relation to him I would like to celebrate my Scottish Roots and wish everyone a happy Robbie Burns Day! I celebrated by putting a “Scotland” T-shirt on Sariah and going to the official Robbie Burns website. If you have read any of Robbie Burns works you may have wondered what the meaning of some the words are. On the website there is a glossary that will tell you what a word means. For example “bonie” means “pretty” and “gang” means “to go”.
Here is one of Robert Burns’ most famous poems and perfect for valentines which is coming up.
O my Luve’s like a red, red rose,
That’s newly sprung in June:
O my Luve’s like the melodie,
That’s sweetly play’d in tune.As fair art thou, my bonie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.And fare-thee-weel, my only Luve!
And fare-thee-weel, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho’ ’twere ten thousand mile!

That’s one of my favorite poems too, as well as the sonnet he wrote on his birthday about a thrush singing and the wintery scenery and “Auld Lang Syne”.
Also, is not Robert Burns we have a connection to (well, maybe we do but it hasn’t been found yet) it’s Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland.
Have fun celebrating Scotish culture today!!
